Will AI balance the scales or drive further inequality?

DEAN NORRIS| FOUNDERS CIRCLE| 13th June 2024|

AI. It seems we're all swept away with its brilliance and the sophistication of the technology considering its such a raw and young technology(OpenAI's ChatGPT was released in November 2022).

However, Big Tech's overwhelming influence on our society has become a pressing concern as a result of the inadequacies of current antitrust legislation and the failure of policy to adapt to the rapid advancements in technology.

The grip that Big Tech has on various aspects of our lives is tightening, raising serious questions about the implications of such dominance. With their power unchecked, Big Tech corporations are consolidating wealth and control in the hands of a select few, exacerbating the already significant wealth gap and consolidating power among the top 1% of society.

Furthermore, the implications of this growing dominance go beyond mere economic concerns. The erosion of individual agency and privacy is a direct consequence of Big Tech's unchecked expansion. These corporations have unprecedented access to vast amounts of personal data, raising serious questions about the protection of privacy rights and the potential for abuse of this information.

The very fabric of our society is being reshaped by the influence of Big Tech, with far-reaching consequences that extend beyond the realms of economics and technology.

What does the future have in store for AI, and for us as a society?
